STEP 1
Realize that you are a sinner.
It may be hard to admit, but we all have sinned. No matter how good a life we try to live, we still fall miserably short of being a perfect person. That is because we are all sinners. Sin simply means that we can’t measure up to God’s perfect standard of righteousness.
God tells us in His Word, the Bible…
There is none righteous, no, not one…. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:10, 23
We cannot become who we are supposed to be without Jesus Christ. Yet God knows you and He loves you very much. He wants you to receive His free gift of salvation and spend eternity with Him in heaven.
No one can be good enough to get to heaven. God demands holiness, and as sinners, we fall short. Because we fall short, we will spend eternity separated from God.
STEP 2
Recognize that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you.
Recognize that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you.
God loves us so much that He provided a way for us to go to heaven.
The penalty for sin is death, but instead of giving that death to us, Jesus suffered death for us that we might be forgiven by God. The Bible tells us that “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
This is the Good News, that God loves us so much that He sent His only Son to die in our place when we least deserved it. Jesus, who died on the cross for our sins, took our place, we can live forever with God in heaven.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
Whosoever means anyone, regardless of background, status, age, or past. This gift of salvation is freely available to all.
STEP 3
Repent of your sin and go the other way.
The Bible tells us, “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;” Acts 3:19
The word repent means to change our direction in life. Instead of running from God, we can run toward Him. When we confess and repent, we are agreeing with God that we need His grace and forgiveness in our lives.
STEP 4
Receive Jesus Christ into your life.
Becoming a Christian is not merely believing some creed or going to church. It is having Christ Himself take residence in your life and heart. Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. ” Revelation 3:20
To receive God’s free gift of salvation, simply believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible says…
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9
If you would like to have a relationship with Christ, simply pray this prayer and mean it in your heart:
“Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me. Amen.”
